While protecting your skin's moisture during winter cold is important, the nutrients you consume are equally vital to maintaining a healthy complexion. Ayça Güleryüz, Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist at Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital, explains, "Certain foods contribute to skin repair through their compounds. By eating healthily and in a balanced manner, you can make your skin glow." The Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist shared 10 foods that protect and revitalize the skin against freezing winter temperatures and provided important information.

Pumpkin

Pumpkin, which is 90% water, contains important minerals such as potassium, magnesium, zinc, calcium, phosphorus and iron. Additionally, pumpkin is quite rich in vitamin A and, through compounds called retinoids, helps improve acne, inflammation and other skin problems. Salmon Salmon contains unsaturated fatty acids that the body needs but cannot produce on its own, helping to slow down the aging process in cells. Additionally, thanks to its selenium content, it protects the skin against damage from external factors. Grapefruit With its vitamin C, collagen and elastin content, grapefruit helps protect the skin. While helping to reduce wrinkles and spots that can form from the sun's effects in summer, it strengthens the immune system and prevents inflammatory skin problems. Walnut On cold winter days, walnuts help create the skin's natural oil barrier thanks to their omega 3 and omega 6 content, preventing skin dryness and protecting against spots. With vitamin E, an important antioxidant in its composition, and zinc, it nourishes the skin and is effective in wound healing. Green Tea Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist Ayça Güleryüz states: "Green tea accelerates skin renewal through its antioxidant capacity and supports collagen production. It prevents DNA damage and delays aging. Additionally, compounds called polyphenols found in green tea show anti-inflammatory effects, reducing inflammation in the body." Avocado Avocado helps moisturize the skin thanks to its vitamin E and healthy fats, while also protecting the skin's elastic structure through its vitamin C content. These antioxidant-rich vitamins can also reduce DNA damage in skin cells. They help reduce harmful effects on skin by fighting free radicals that can result from sunlight, smoking and environmental pollution. Broccoli Broccoli is one of the most important foods for skin beauty due to its richness in vitamin A, vitamin C and zinc mineral. Additionally, clinical studies have shown that through the sulforaphane in its composition, it protects the body against free radicals and delays skin aging. Legumes Dry legumes, which are rich in calcium, zinc, magnesium and iron, are also an excellent source for all B vitamins except B12. B vitamins support the maintenance of skin health, moisturize the skin and prevent inflammation. Additionally, through the zinc in its composition, it increases vitamin A levels and protects the skin against acne. Egg Eggs help with skin tissue renewal thanks to their vitamin A content and stand out with their rich selenium content. According to many studies, selenium plays a key role in preventing skin cancer, while elastin is crucial for skin structure.

Dark Chocolate

Nutrition and Dietetics Specialist Ayça Güleryüz states: "The higher the cocoa percentage in dark chocolate, the greater its benefits. Clinical studies show that cocoa helps keep skin softer and more moisturized, but do not forget to choose chocolate with low sugar content and do not exceed 20 grams (that is, 2 small squares) of chocolate as a daily consumption amount."
