TRABZON PERSIMMON

Trabzon persimmon, heavenly persimmon, Chinese plum, Japanese persimmon—call it what you will, but the fact remains that now is the perfect time to eat this medicinal fruit with countless benefits for human health… In addition to vitamins A, B and C, Trabzon persimmon contains many minerals and originates from China and Japan. In our country, it is grown on the Black Sea coast and in the Adana and Hatay regions. Trabzon persimmon is beneficial for heart-vascular and digestive system diseases and also strengthens the immune system. Because it contains iron, it is an important food against anemia. Recent research has shown that it lowers cholesterol and high blood pressure.

How Should We Consume It?

The fruit should be consumed at full ripeness, as unripe Trabzon persimmon has a stringent taste. You can consume it with or without the skin. In addition to eating it as a fruit, you can make jam and marmalade; use it in pastries and salads.

CINNAMON

Cinnamon, which holds an important place in Turkish cuisine, has innumerable benefits. Particularly preferred in winter months alongside salep and boza, cinnamon is obtained from the inner bark of a tree called Cinnamomum. Cinnamon prevents blood cell coagulation and contains high amounts of calcium, magnesium, iron and fiber. It acts as a natural antibiotic in the body, protects skin health and helps prevent allergic reactions on the skin. Because it protects cells from cancer, it is an important spice against cancer. Cinnamon improves the sensitivity of diabetic patients to insulin hormone and helps regulate blood sugar. As it protects heart-vascular health and helps reduce the risk of heart attack, this miraculous spice is also a powerful reservoir of antioxidants.

GINGER

Ginger, whose homeland is Asia, has served as a cure for diseases through different consumption methods for centuries as well as added flavor to food and beverages. Ginger contains as active ingredients calcium, phosphorus, iron, B and C vitamins. Among the most well-known health benefits of ginger are its healing effects against nausea and cough. Besides these, it reduces cancerous cells against ovarian and colon cancer, helps with motion sickness (sea, air, car sickness) and strengthens the immune system.

How Do We Consume Ginger?

Especially in winter months, we are more likely to catch flu, cold and common cold. In addition to medicines, we can alleviate our sore throats and coughs naturally with the help of ginger. For Sore Throats: Add 3-4 slices of fresh ginger to 1 cup of hot water, steep for 5 minutes, then add a cinnamon stick and some honey and consume. For Cough: Add half a teaspoon of ginger powder, a quarter teaspoon of ground cinnamon and a few cloves to 1 cup of boiled water, then add honey and consume.
