World-Renowned Architects to Host Webinar Series

İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi brings together world-renowned architects Eric Owen Moss, Hashim Sarkis and Ian Ritchie with its students. İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi (İKÜ) Architecture Department is bringing together world-renowned architects with its students. US architect and academic Eric Owen Moss, Dean of MIT School of Architecture and Planning and Curator of the 2020 Venice Biennale Hashim Sarkis, and British architect and academic Ian Ritchie will meet with young professionals in online events. In the webinar series running throughout the fall semester, architect and academic Eric Owen Moss will first appear on 27 October Tuesday at 20:00 with a presentation titled "The Day the Sun Stood Still". At the second event held on 18 November Wednesday at 20:00, Dean of MIT School of Architecture and Planning Hashim Sarkis will share his experiences with students. In the series' final event, architect and academic Ian Ritchie will give a presentation titled "Light is the Opium of the Architect and Shadow Its Form" on 9 December Wednesday at 20:00. Who is Eric Owen Moss?

US architect and academic Eric Owen Moss completed his undergraduate education at the University of California in Los Angeles, then earned a master's degree in architecture from the UC Berkeley School of Environmental Design and Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Moss, who founded Eric Owen Moss Architects in 1973, has completed numerous projects across the United States and various locations worldwide. Through these projects, Moss has received numerous local, national and international design awards including the Architecture Academy Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1999), LA Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) (2001), Arpafil Award in Guadalajara (2019), "New Cities Connecting Points" Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) (2020), and AIA Twenty-Five Year Award (2020). Moss has served as a faculty member at numerous prestigious universities including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, University of Applied Arts Vienna, and Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. In 2013, he was honored with the "Most Admired Educator Award" by the Design Futures Council, and in 2016 was recognized with the "Educator of the Year Award" by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Who is Hashim Sarkis?

Architect and academic Hashim Sarkis completed his undergraduate education at Rhode Island School of Design in the Architecture Department and Fine Arts Department, then earned his master's degree and doctorate from Harvard University Architecture Department. Sarkis, who founded Hashim Sarkis Studio in 1998, has produced architectural and urban projects in his Boston and Beirut offices including affordable housing, residences, parks, institutional buildings, urban designs and city planning. Hashim Sarkis Studio, whose projects include Byblos Municipal Building and Courtower Residences, has received numerous awards and its work has been exhibited in many locations worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and biennales in Venice, Rotterdam, Shenzhen/Hong Kong and Valparaiso. Previously teaching at Harvard University, Rhode Island School of Design, Yale University, and American University of Beirut, Hashim Sarkis has served as a faculty member and Dean at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 2015. Sarkis, who has authored various books and articles on modern architecture history and theory, most recently served as curator of the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at the 2020 Venice Biennale, which was postponed to May 2021 due to coronavirus. Who is Ian Ritchie?

British architect and academic Ian Ritchie completed his undergraduate education at Liverpool John Moores University Architecture Department, then pursued his studies in urbanism in Oita-Osaka, Japan and subsequently graduated from PCL (now Westminster University). Ritchie, who founded Ian Ritchie Architects in 1981, has received over 100 national and international awards through his projects in the United Kingdom and Europe. Ritchie, who has chaired numerous international juries including the RIBA Stirling Prize, RIAS Doolan Prize, Berlin Art Prize, Czech Architecture Grand Prize and the French government's "Nouveaux Jeunes Albums", is also founding director of Rice Francis Ritchie, a Paris-based design engineering practice. Previously serving at Moscow School of Architecture, University of Leeds, and Royal Academy of Arts, Ian Ritchie currently teaches as an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool.
