ENKA Sanat to Host Theater Performance This Week

ENKA Sanat's programme this week continues with two different theatre performances. On 23 February, a shadow theatre production for children titled "Garbage Monster," written and directed by Cengiz Özek; on 25 February, "Is He Dying or What?" staged by the Studio Oyuncuları ensemble led by Şahika Tekand awaits theatre enthusiasts at ENKA Auditorium.

ENKA Sanat's traditional "Happy Sundays" programme for children this time hosts a shadow theatre titled "Garbage Monster," written and directed by Cengiz Özek, which entertains and educates. "Garbage Monster" begins when a good-hearted fish, responsible for cleaning the seas and having become almost monstrous from eating all the garbage, stands against Karagöz, who throws plastic bottles into the sea. In the play that takes place among fish swimming here and there, sometimes on the surface and sometimes at the bottom of the sea, and among garbage waiting to be digested in the monster's stomach, when the striking naive appearance of the created spaces comes together with the fantastic sound captured by primitive instruments, an incredible dreamlike world is created. The event, which will begin at 14:00 on Sunday, 23 February, will take place at ENKA Auditorium free of charge for students.

The theatre production "Is He Dying or What?" written and directed by Şahika Tekand and starring Arda Kurşunoğlu, Ahmet Sarıcan and Nedim Zakuto meets the audience at 20:30 on Tuesday, 25 February at ENKA Auditorium. The play greets the worlds of classical and contemporary comedy masters such as Eugene Ionesco, Samuel Beckett and Aristophanes both in text and performance language; it addresses concepts such as power, marriage, labour, justice, reason, opportunity and war in an ironic tone.
