Moon Duo

Psychedelic krautrock legends Moon Duo, the Portland-based duo, are coming to Studio on the evening of 7 February 2018 to make our ears buzz! Moon Duo, the project of Erik "Ripley" Johnson—whom you may remember from Wooden Shjips—and his wife Sanae Yamade, say they draw inspiration from Spaceman 3, Silver Apples and Suicide. Since 2009, Moon Duo has been one of the favorite bands of psychedelic music lovers with their trippy sounds, and they also have a loyal listener base in Istanbul. Founded in 2009, Moon Duo released the singles Love On The Sea and The Killing Time the same year. In 2010, they signed their debut album Escape to Woodsist, one of the best record labels in their genre. Following the album, the group performed concerts almost continuously, releasing their second album in spring 2011—recorded in San Francisco and mixed in Germany. The album consisted of cleverly crafted songs driven by motorik rhythms produced by a drum machine. The group's third album Circles was released in 2012 via Sacred Bones. In 2014, they released Live in Ravenna, comprised of live recordings. After relocating their base to Portland, they began working on new albums in what they describe as a dark basement, alongside drummer John Jeffrey. Their album Shadow Of The Sun, mixed in Germany by Jonas Verwijnen, became the group's most intense and most psychedelic work. In early 2017, Moon Duo released Occult Architecture, Vol. 1, followed in subsequent months by Occult Architecture, Vol. 2. Drawing inspiration from yin-yang philosophy in these two complementary albums, they brought both darkness and light into their music.
