Turkey Reconnects with the Sound of Buzuki!

"The Legend of Buzuki" comes to life at TİM Show Center!

The Thanasis Polykandriotis Buzuki Orchestra and soloists from Café Aman İstanbul will perform at TİM Show Center, the hub of culture and arts, on Saturday, 11 February in the evening, in a concert dedicated to Istanbul-born composer and buzuki master Yorgos Mitsakis. Alongside the Buzuki Orchestra under the direction of renowned Greek composer Thanasis Polykandriotis, soloists Stelyo Berber and Pelin Suer from Café Aman İstanbul will take the stage, with udi Fatih Ahıskalı joining as guest artist. Greece's crystal-voiced Irini Tumbaki will add color to the evening with her unique interpretations. The concert, which will be accompanied by Thanasis Polykandriotis, master of the buzuki worldwide, and a team of 10 select buzuki artists, musicians and dancers from the "EPOMENI" (Next Generation) orchestra, will take listeners on a musical journey with the Buzuki from yesterday to today.

An Unforgettable Evening with Turkish-Greek Melodies!

At the concert featuring soloists Stelyo Berber and Pelin Suer from Café Aman İstanbul, a Turkish-Greek music group founded in 2009, audiences will have the chance to hear famous Greek hits with Turkish lyrics. The group, which released their first album Fasl-ı Rembetiko in early 2012, will present the story of the Buzuki's existence through songs on the TİM Stage. The concert will be accompanied by a magnificent dance ensemble showcasing popular dances from Greece and Turkey such as kasap havası, zeybekiko, sirtaki, hasaposerviko and çiftetelli. Thanasis Polykandriotis, who has devoted his entire life to the buzuki, has prepared a special repertoire of famous Greek songs spanning from the 1930s to today for his concert in Istanbul. In the first part of the concert, the buzuki virtuoso will feature unforgettable instrumental music from the 1950s and 1960s, presenting the development of Greek music from Rembetiko to Laiko (popular). In the second part, with compositions by Giorgos Zambetas, Apostolos Kaldaras and Thanasis Polykandriotis, audiences will witness the modern and contemporary years of Greek composition. The concert, enriched with music and songs from the golden age of Greek film culture, will also present music from "Carnation in the Ear" as well as "Lantern, Poverty and Honor" from 1955 and "Get Up and Dance Sirtaki" from 1967. The concert will be presented enriched with historical visual materials curated by Dr. Dimitris Stathokopoulos, sociologist and specialist in Ottoman history, musician and Byzantine musicologist.
