"Captured Time" Opens at Galeri Diani on 8 April! Master artist Su Yücel presents works of documentary character—selecting and capturing hope from fleeting moments, freezing them before they fade—in a solo exhibition titled "CAPTURED TIME" at Galeri Diani beginning 8 April! The exhibition "Captured Time" by multidisciplinary artist Su Yücel runs from 8-29 April 2023 at Galeri Diani. In this exhibition, the artist captures her acquired experiences in the moment, and shares with us the impressions that remain in her mind—combining what has happened due to human causes worldwide and in our country, moments of nature, and the joy of living. While sharing her memory of life with us in the spirit of a documentarian, she conveys the colors on her palette by melting the elements of life, time and space within each other to the viewer. Su Yücel, who says "I followed the scent of time, its noise, its colors, its texture; I recorded time without losing it," essentially looks at every moment of life as a painting. In transferring her artistic language to canvas, she blends her knowledge with the moments that remain in her mind, essentially capturing the photograph of the moment and sharing its emotion with the viewer. In some of her works, she even paints the camera itself, its frame and buttons, both capturing the moment and conveying that moment to memories. As we all know, Su Yücel continuously nourishes her art through her documentary approach and travels. The intimate dialogues she establishes with nature and people find their place in her works, becoming paintings. While making documentaries on the one hand, she films her dialogues with people and nature, while also painting her emotions. The master artist delves into the details that everyone in daily life overlooks and does not feel, pursues those details, and tells us viewers how important these details are, how they create moments and memories. As an artist who loves colors deeply, Su Yücel also emphasizes the importance of poetry as a family tradition in her works. While stating that she unites different disciplines together on a common ground in art, she says: "My talent, my pleasure and my excitement tend more toward color. Who is Su Yücel?

Su Yücel, granddaughter of Hasan Ali Yücel, daughter of poet and translator Can Yücel and painter Güler Yücel, was born in London in 1961… In 1974, while in middle school, her painting titled "Lunch in the Field" won first prize in the Stamp Design Competition organized by the PTT and was printed in one million copies. In 1979, she began studying in the painting department at Strasbourg Beaux-Arts academy. She took lessons from Camile Hirtz, Camile Claus and Sarkis Zabunyan. In 1984, she participated in a group exhibition at Gallery Mont Charge in Strasbourg. The same year, she held her first solo exhibition at Galata Sanat Galerisi in Istanbul. In 1986, she was invited to Jordan. For six months, she exhibited paintings reflecting her observations of Jordan at Petra Bank Gallery in Amman. In 1987, she worked as art director on the film "A Handful of Sky" directed by Ümit Elçi, and in 1988 on the film "Island" directed by Süreyya Duru. During her time in Canada in 1991, she exhibited her accumulated works in a solo exhibition at Vancouver Fine Art Gallery. In 1997, together with Can Yücel, Reent Bölükbaşı and Ali Peret, she organized the "Poetry, Painting and Jazz" meeting. In 2000, she received the "Best Stage Design" award from the Arts Foundation for "Can Oyunu" directed by Genco Erkal. The artist participated in many social projects. In 2002, within the framework of Women's Initiative for Peace (WINPEACE), she conducted painting workshops with women from Izmir-Karaburun and Lesbos, and with women from the Southeast through KAMER Foundation. Works resulting from these projects were exhibited in Lesbos, Karaburun, Athens, Rhodes, Diyarbakır and Istanbul. Traces of her projects with women from the Aegean and Southeast became visible in the exhibition "Talisman" which she held in 2004. In 2006, she created the "Mediterranean" series to be permanently displayed in the lobby of Antalya Barut Hotel. In 2009, she assisted in the Fidelio opera staged by German director Karl Kneidl at the Augsburg State Opera and Ballet. That same year, she held a solo exhibition at Daskunst im Augenblick in Vienna. In recent years, the artist has been working on Roma themes. In 2010, upon invitation from Tarlabaşı Community Center, she conducted workshop sessions with women from Tarlabaşı and exhibited the results there. In 2010, she held solo exhibitions in Istanbul and Izmir. She is currently preparing a series of documentaries with art themes covering different regions of Turkey for İz TV, and continues to produce documentary films for Habitat TV. In 2013, Middle East Technical University deemed the artist worthy of the Commendation Award for her professional achievements and contributions to the country. She continues her documentary and painting work.
