"Journey" Photography Exhibition Begins

French traveller and photographer Ferrante Ferranti's photo exhibition "Journey" will be presented simultaneously in October at Institut français Turkey's halls in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir. Three distinct exhibitions will thus form a unified whole. [caption id="attachment_105031" align="aligncenter"] Ferrante Ferranti[/caption] At just twenty years old in 1980, Ferrante Ferranti began his journeys of discovery, first travelling to Sicily, the "Land of the Sun" to trace his roots, then to Greece. During a trip to Egypt in 1981, captivated by Islamic art, Ferranti decided to become a photographer. That same year, dreaming of the Dardanelles and the Golden Horn, Pamukkale and Byzantium, he came to Turkey. He marveled at Sinan's minarets, the Topkapı Palace, caravanserai domes and the frescoes of Cappadocia. From 1997 onwards, his adventurous travels began in Iran and continued through Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Uzbekistan, finally concluding in 2008 in Algeria, his native country. Having travelled throughout all Mediterranean countries, Ferranti returns to Turkey every year. His discoveries, together with archaeologist Jacques des Courtils, led to the publication of Journey to Ancient Turkey, written out of respect for an exceptional yet little-known world heritage. The Journey exhibition tells the story of this 40-year adventure.
