Nynas Naphthenic Oils Deliver Formulation Stability
Xuzhou Longshida Chemical has enabled its customers to improve the performance of their adhesive products thanks to the high polarity and solvency power of Nynas naphthenic oils.
Xuzhou Longshida Chemical, headquartered in Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province in northeastern China, began its operations in the additives industry in 2009.
The company produces a wide range of additives commonly used in coatings, adhesives and emulsion formulations. With antifoaming agents accounting for 50% of current commercial activities, the company's product portfolio also includes wetting and dispersing agents as well as thickeners.
The company is currently in the process of purchasing a new facility that will increase its additives production capacity and provide new equipment for manufacturing water-based coatings and adhesives.
Xuzhou Longshida Chemical Chairman Zhang Lei stated, "The water-based coatings and adhesives market has begun to grow rapidly in recent years as a result of the Chinese government's environmental protection policies and initiatives."
"We believe that growth in this segment will be sustained as consumers are operating with higher awareness about water-based coatings or adhesives when purchasing flooring, furniture or homes."
The collaboration between Xuzhou Longshida Chemical and Nynas began in late 2016 when the company experienced quality issues with a new antifoaming product.
"Some of our end customers complained that the product did not have stable performance and quality. At that time I was using Group II paraffinic oil," said Zhang, who contacted Nynas through one of his adhesive customers.
The Nynas sales team proposed several naphthenic oil formulations to Zhang. Learning that naphthenic oil has higher polarity and solvency power compared to paraffinic oil and that this property would improve the stability and performance of the antifoaming agent, Zhang decided to test NYTEX 810.
"Fortunately, one formulation was similar to ours, so by making small adjustments to that formulation we obtained a better product."
Beginning in early 2017, the transition to naphthenic oil was made with deliveries from Nynas's Shanghai warehouse first in drums and then in larger ISO tanks. Initially, Zhang was very satisfied that Nynas's oil resolved the quality issues and that customer complaints decreased as a result of improved performance.
"After communicating more with Nynas, I also saw how reliable the company and its employees are. In my view, reliability is as important a factor as the product itself."
The antifoaming agent produced by Xuzhou Longshida Chemical with the new naphthenic oil-based formulation can now compete with the product of a major global chemical company, its main competitor, which gives Zhang confidence to grow his business.
"Increasingly more end customers are noticing this. Better performance and higher quality also allow us to increase our margins. After a year of collaboration, I truly appreciate not only the high quality and stable performance of Nynas's oil but also the service of its employees."
As a specialty additives supplier, Xuzhou Longshida Chemical needs to develop different formulations to meet various requirements of its customers. Zhang aims to continue close collaboration with Nynas. "When we need mineral oil in the formulation of our products, I prioritize Nynas oil."
