Evonik Continues to Advance Sustainability Analysis of Its Operations

Evonik continues to advance the sustainability analysis of its operations. As part of this effort, the specialty chemicals company is investigating the contribution of its own products in terms of resource efficiency in applications. In addition, energy savings, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption and waste issues are also being examined. This analysis covers all of Evonik's active chemical operations. The results of the sustainability analysis for the 2016 financial year confirmed the following: Evonik's chemistry divisions derive approximately 50 percent of their current turnover from products that can be demonstrated to contribute further to improved resource efficiency during application. Examples of these products include amino acids for animal nutrition, additives for hydraulic oils and functional silanes for building facade protection. Evonik had the methodological basis underlying the analysis externally verified in spring 2017 and subsequently published it. Sustainable operations and a sense of responsibility are among the core pillars of Evonik's business model. Thomas Wessel, Board Member responsible for sustainability, states: "We experience daily in our exchange of information with employees, customers, investors and business partners the close relationship between, on the one hand, ecologically and socially responsible conduct and, on the other hand, economic success." Sustainability has long since become a growth driver at Evonik and an important criterion in purchasing decisions.
