During the past year, Henkel continued to make progress in implementing its sustainability strategy. Within the company's ambitious targets in packaging for developing a sustainable and circular economy, plastic became one of the most important focus areas. Kathrin Menges, Vice President of Human Resources and Chair of the Sustainability Council at Henkel, shared her views as follows: "Sustainability has long been the most important priority for Henkel. Today, we are reporting for the 28th time on our progress in creating value while reducing resource consumption. To date, with the significant support of our partners, we have successfully advanced many projects, initiatives and activities."

Creating Sustainable Value

Henkel aims to reduce its environmental footprint while contributing to sustainable development, and at the same time create greater value for customers and consumers, the communities in which it operates, and the company itself by 2030. In this context, Henkel actively supports the implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations in 2015. Overall, the company increased its total productivity by 43% compared to 2010, the baseline year, with the help of activities carried out in all regions worldwide. Henkel aims to increase resource productivity by 75% by 2020.

Active Contribution to Climate Protection

Within the framework of the Paris Climate Agreement, Henkel aims to make an active contribution to keeping global warming below two degrees Celsius. The company's primary goal is to reduce the carbon dioxide footprint generated by its own production activities by 75% by 2030. In addition, Henkel is working to source 100% of the electricity it uses in the production process from renewable sources by 2030. The company also wants to strengthen the potential of its brands and technologies: Henkel aims to help customers and consumers save 50 million metric tons of carbon dioxide by 2020.
