October chemical industry exports reached USD 1.604 billion, up 8.79% compared to October 2017, making the sector Turkey's second-largest export sector after automotive.
Egypt, Spain, Iraq, Germany, Malta, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Greece, USA and Italy ranked in the top ten destinations for chemical exports in October.
The ten-month chemical industry exports for 2018 reached USD 14.425 billion, up 8.08% compared to the same period in 2017. The top ten export destinations during this period were Germany, Egypt, Spain, USA, Iraq, Italy, United Kingdom, Greece, Netherlands and China.
"Rapidly Advancing Toward Permanent Second-Place Position in Chemical Exports"
İKMİB Chairman Board of Directors Adil Pelister stated that the chemical sector achieved consecutive major success, securing the second-largest export volume in October as well.
Pelister noted the following in his statement: "As the chemical sector, after achieving second place in June and September, we managed to rank second again in October with USD 1.6 billion in exports. Our chemical industry is rapidly advancing toward our goal of permanent second-place position in exports.
As İKMİB, we organize numerous activities to help our companies acquire new markets and establish new business partnerships. We have delivered successful events through our overseas Turkish national participation organizations.

Egypt Led Chemical Exports in October
Egypt was the leading destination for chemical exports in October. Chemical exports to Egypt reached USD 132.431 million in October 2018, up 49.28% compared to USD 88.711 million in October 2017.
The main chemical products exported to Egypt in October 2018 included mineral fuels, mineral oils and products, miscellaneous chemical substances, detergent preparations, organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals, paints, varnishes, inks and preparations, and adhesives, glues and enzymes. Ten-month chemical exports to Egypt in 2018 reached USD 773.492 million.
Other top ten destinations for October chemical exports following Egypt were Spain, Iraq, Germany, Malta, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Greece, USA and Italy.
Plastics and Plastic Products Lead Chemical Subsector Exports
Plastics and plastic products exports continue as the driving force of chemical exports in subsectors. In October,
plastics and plastic products held
first place with exports of USD 528.753 million.
In second place were
mineral fuels, mineral oils and products with USD 359.225 million in exports, while
inorganic chemicals ranked
third with USD 158.426 million in exports.
Following inorganic chemicals, other top ten subsectors included rubber and rubber products, essential oils, cosmetics and soap, pharmaceutical products, paints, varnishes, inks and preparations, miscellaneous chemical substances, detergent preparations and fertilizers.
