MALTA 6001 Injection Mortars An injection mortar used to strengthen the surface of wall paintings with low binder content and the paint layers applied to them, and to stabilize loose layers. It is recommended for use in cracks and voids up to a maximum depth of 5 mm.

Properties It has excellent flow capability without the need to wet the layer where injection will be applied. It is compatible with the surrounding environment and lime plaster. Its chemical and physical properties are similar to lime and hydraulic lime. Low mechanical stability prevents efflorescence even in very humid environments. The product volume remains constant both in the plastic phase and when completely absorbed.

Application Used to strengthen fresco paintings with low binder content and to stabilize loose fresco layers.

Mortar composition

Composed of special chemically stable hydraulic binder components containing low amounts of salt, silica powder, very fine filler containing special additive mixtures to improve flowability, water retention and pore formation. This mixture is finely ground and mixed.

Mixing

Mixed for 6-8 minutes in a low-speed mixer (700 rpm) to bring it to ready-to-use state.

Application recommendations

1. Close any potential drainage holes in the mortar. 2. Open suitable drill holes with a diameter of at least 2 mm and spacing no more than 20 cm to apply a stable MALTA 6001 layer. 3. Holes must be thoroughly cleaned with a pump or aspirator. 4. Injection can be done with a needle or fine-tube regular syringe. Those used by veterinarians are recommended. Continue mixing before withdrawal with the syringe. Inject continuously to prevent clogging. Once the holes have been carefully made and all loose material has been removed, MALTA 6001 is injected into hollow areas without pre-wetting or pressure application. Limited Application Areas MALTA 6001 is a lime-based binder; therefore, during application, temperature should not be below 5°C or above 35°C. Efflorescence MALTA 6001 does not effloresce according to Italian Standard RAL 544/3. Stability 30-year stability tests have been performed with MALTA 6001 samples. In these tests, property changes of less than 3% were observed. Malta 6001 mortar has been in use in Italy and other European countries for approximately 30 years.
