LG Chem Aims to Enter the Automotive Adhesive Market

LG Chem announced plans to supply thermally conductive adhesives for the North American market to automobile manufacturers in the United States. The company aims to transform its automotive adhesive business into a multi-million-dollar unit.
Thermally conductive adhesives are used to bond battery cells to modules or packs and provide electrical insulation with high thermal conductivity, which is critical for maintaining thermal performance.
LG Chem entered the automotive adhesive sector in North America by acquiring US-based automotive adhesive specialist Uniseal in 2018. Uniseal has recently gained prominence by developing new products that contain no harmful chemicals for automotive bodies and emit less carbon.
In addition to thermally conductive adhesives for batteries, LG Chem develops various adhesive materials such as polyimide varnishes and silver nano pastes for motors and inverters/converters, and works in close cooperation with domestic and foreign companies. The company is also expanding its product range to include adhesives applicable to various electronic components such as camera sensors, headlights and in-vehicle displays.
