Birdman - (87th Academy Awards) 2015

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is a 2014 American dark comedy and drama film. The film was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. He is also one of the film's screenwriters. The film's leading roles feature names such as Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts. Keaton plays a Hollywood actor who was once famous for a superhero role but has been forgotten, and is trying to become famous again with a Broadway show. Birdman received positive reviews from many sources, including the American Film Institute. It was shown as one of the best films of 2014. The production starring Michael Keaton and Emma Stone and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was deemed worthy of four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.

Spotlight - (88th Academy Awards) 2016

Spotlight, written by McCarthy and Josh Singer, was directed by Tom McCarthy. The film focuses on the "Spotlight" unit of The Boston Globe, the oldest active investigative newspaper unit in the United States. The cast includes Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci, Brian d'Arcy James, Liev Schreiber and Billy Crudup. The film is adapted from the true story of a group of Boston Globe journalists who uncovered a conspiracy in the early 2000s in which abusive priests were covered up by the Catholic Church. By avoiding excessive sentimentality and focusing on the harsh reality of its subject matter, the production addresses a sensitive issue such as child abuse by priests in a way that is emotionally more impactful than melodramatic films. The film won the Best Picture Academy Award, surpassing The Big Short, which was expected to win.

Moonlight - (89th Academy Awards) 2017

Moonlight is a story about the impact of love and affection on human beings. It focuses on John, an American Black child, and how and when his life entered the drug-infested world of Miami, and how and when, after many years passed, he emerged from this swamp. The film is structured in three distinct layers, much like the story of a person growing up. The first section begins as "Little." We see a Chiron in the early years of his life, this youngster who has initiated his uniqueness as a character does not yet have a name. He has not yet been "socialized." For this reason, he is chased by a group of early-maturing children. He hides in a building and waits for his salvation there. This salvation becomes Juan, who represents him in adulthood and whom he takes as a role model. The second section "Chiron" addresses the adolescence, the transition period of the child. From the 8 nominations it received, it was deemed worthy of 3 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.  

The Shape of Water - (90th Academy Awards) 2018

The film takes place in America during the Cold War. Elisa is a lonely girl. Elisa, with a quiet, routine life, works as a cleaner in a secret, highly secure state laboratory. During the Cold War years, Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins), a mute cleaning lady working at a secret research facility of the American government, continues with her work in ordinary days when one day, together with her friend Zelda (Octavia Spencer), she learns of a great secret. A creature unlike anything in the world has been created under laboratory conditions. The creature, which can live both on land and in water, gradually forms a very close bond with Elisa. The production won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Production Design and Best Original Score.

Green Book - (91st Academy Awards) 2019

It is a 2018 American comedy-drama film directed by Peter Farrelly. The film's original title is Green Book. The screenplay was written together by director Peter Farrelly, Brian Hayes Currie and Nick Vallelonga. Tony Lip is a celebrated pianist of African descent living in an Italian American neighborhood. As part of a concert tour heading south from Manhattan, the pianist is looking for a driver to travel with him from city to city. He asks Tony, who has been unemployed for some time, to take the job. Tony uses The Green Book guide to travel a safe route for African Americans. During their journey, the pair face racism but must put aside their differences during these difficult travels. The film became the owner of the Academy Award in the "Best Picture" category.

Parasite - (92nd Academy Awards) 2020

Parasite is a 2019 South Korean black comedy thriller directed and written by Bong Joon-ho. The cast includes Song Kangho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik and Park So-dam. The film tells the story of a family that misinterprets the opportunities that come before them. Parasite addresses class differences, capitalism and family relationships around a poor family's entry into a rich family's home as servants. On one side is the Park family, presenting a classic picture of inherited wealth, while on the other is the Kim family, rich in street smarts but with no other wealth. As a result of chance or fate, these two households somehow come together, and the Kim family immediately foresees the existence of a golden opportunity.
