AKO Akü Achieves 100% Recycling

AKO Akü, having achieved a 100% recycling rate through its environmentally friendly production model, is redefining sustainability in the battery industry. Its integrated production facilities operating with a zero-waste target, exemplary waste management practices and environmentally conscious technologies rank it among Europe's five most advanced facilities.

AKO Akü, operating under the AKO Group, holds a pioneering position in battery recycling through its ecological production policies implemented at its integrated production facilities in Çankırı. At the facility managed with fully automated systems, all solid, liquid and gas waste is controlled; no waste is released into nature and is instead returned to the system for reprocessing.

Operating with annual battery production capacity of 5 million units and scrap battery processing capacity of 30,000 tons, the facilities demonstrate an exemplary model of environmental responsibility according to the "Zero Waste" principle in Turkey. AKO Akü, the only battery factory in Turkey equipped with a desulfurization system known as BAT (Best Available Techniques) in the European Union and MET (Mevcut En İyi Teknik) in Turkey, stands out as a pioneering company in reducing environmental impact.

"No waste is released into nature"
Operating according to the Zero Waste principle, AKO Akü manages solid, liquid and gas waste processes through fully automated systems at its modern recovery facility built within the factory premises. This facility, featuring Industry 4.0 characteristics, draws attention as the only facility in Turkey with a desulfurization unit mandatory in Europe. Thanks to this system, production and recycling processes are managed within sustainable cycles without leaving any harmful emissions to the environment.

Hüseyin Koca, General Director of AKO Akü, stressed the importance of the technology used in the recycling process and said: "Through the advanced technology we use in the recycling of lead-acid batteries, we reduce our environmental impact to zero. Our goal is not merely to dispose of waste, but to recover it and create a sustainable cycle. We aim for a cleaner and more livable world for future generations."

Koca also commented on their sustainability vision: "As AKO Akü, we aim for 100% environmental compliance not only in production but also in recycling. Our work conducted in line with our zero-waste principle allows us to produce without harming nature while also creating significant economic value recovery. As of 2024, we achieved our 100% recycling target. This success is not merely an environmental project, but also a concrete reflection of AKO's green economy vision," he explained.

Turkey's most advanced battery production facility
At the production campus in Çankırı equipped with Industry 4.0 technologies, battery production, plastic injection and smelting processes are conducted in an integrated manner. This system, supported by the recycling facility, represents the most advanced battery production structure under one roof in Turkey.
