YEO Teknoloji, a global renewable energy and energy technology group, continues its environmentally friendly investments through its subsidiaries. CALL Energy, the subsidiary of YEO Teknoloji managing renewable energy and energy storage investments, announced that it has obtained preliminary licensing from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) for 4 new run-of-river hydroelectric power plant (HES) projects operating with Archimedean Screw technology.
With the HES portfolio featuring turbines to be manufactured by Mikrohes, a group company of YEO Teknoloji, and operating with an Archimedean reverse screw system, up to 137.4 GWh of electricity will be generated annually. A total investment of USD 55 million is planned for projects that will meet the electricity needs of thousands of households each year.
How does the Archimedean screw work?
The Archimedean Screw turbine, developed by Mikrohes A.Ş., a group company of YEO Teknoloji, enables electricity to be generated with high efficiency even in rivers with low flow rates and low elevation differences. Standing out with its environmentally friendly structure, this technology operates without separating water from its riverbed, allowing fish to pass without harm, increases oxygen levels to clean the water, and protects the ecological balance of the region. These systems, brought to life through YEO Teknoloji's engineering capabilities, can also be integrated into areas such as cooling water outlets of industrial factories, idle HES channels, treatment facilities, and fish farms.
Target: reaching 1 GW installed capacity
CALL Energy, which has a total portfolio of 346 MWe of pre-licensed storage hydroelectric power plants in Turkey, is becoming an active player in energy conversion through its Archimedean Screw HES investments and water resources. Continuing to grow on a global scale with its projects in development stages in addition to existing power plants in Romania and Italy, CALL Energy aims to reach 1 GW of installed capacity in operation by 2030.
