Supershield Admixplus, Supershield’s liquid crystalline waterproofing admixture, was used in the concrete mix design for the foundation and shear wall pour of İzmir Katip Çelebi University Faculty of Engineering, a construction project by Doyap İnşaat.The
continuous 22-hour-concrete pour of the 5.000 m3 foundation slab was executed in collaboration with the technical team of Çimbeton, Supershield’s regional solution partner, and was completed without any errors by 4 concrete pumps.
Supershield and Çimbeton partnership had always been present on site in order to supervise and ensure the high workability of the concrete and to avoid cold joints.
The project required a special solution for the waterproofing of the foundation’s 5000 m3 crystalline concrete mass due to the high hydrostatic pressure caused by the water table of 2 meter depth in the project area.
Collaborative work by Supershield and Çimbeton technical departments at the Çimbeton R&D laboratories resulted in the most suitable concrete mix design including Supershield Admixplus.
Supershield Admixplus was added to concrete during the batching process at the batching plant as part of the automatic dosing system, thus enabling the admixture to be penetrated homogeneously to the whole concrete mass by benefiting from its liquid form.
This also helped prevent any losses in time and labor, resulting in a smoother work-flow on the construction site.
The use of Supershield Admixplus does not have any negative impacts on the plastic or hardened properties of concrete, therefore no differences were observed during the transportation of the crystalline concrete to the construction site when compared to standard concrete transportation.
The waterproofing phase of the foundation slab had been immediately completed by the time the crystalline concrete was cast on site, providing the concrete with the highest level of resistance to hydrostatic pressure.
Supershield Admixplus is a specially formulated product that stays active throughout the concrete’s lifespan, while improving the durability of the concrete by sealing cracks of up to 0,4 mm and keeping water away from reinforcing bars.
The casting of the crystalline concrete followed by a neat curing phase will be sufficient to ensure the proper installation of Supershield Admixplus.
Following the foundation slab the shear walls were also cast with a concrete mix design with Supershield Admixplus, however, further intervention was required in order to provide a complete waterproofing system.
For that 4gen, Supershields’s dealer with expertise on the application of Supershield products, delivered the second phase of the waterproofing system flawlessly by applying joint tapes made of sodium bentonite and hydro-expansive rubber on cold joints and repairing tie rod holes where
necessary.
