From Bees to Our Table: Propolis

Have you noticed how often we hear the word ‘Propolis’ in newspapers, on the Internet or even in pharmacies recently? This miracle, which has been present for centuries, has become a must for healthy life lovers lately.

Well, they are not wrong at all. Propolis which is colloquially called as bee glue is produced by bees from flowers. It contains beeswax, resin, essential oils, pollen and other organic compounds. Propolis collected by worker bees is fragrant, is not soluble in water and its solid state varies depending on room temperature.

The color and physical properties of propolis also vary depending on its source. It is obtained from the buds, branches and leaves of trees such as ash, pine, elm and oak.

A Source of Vitamin: Propolis

In addition to many nutrients, propolis contains Vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E as well as magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium, copper, zinc iron and manganese. The results obtained from the clinical studies showed that propolis has an important role in fighting against intestinal parasites.

It inhibits the growing and adhering to the intestinal surface of intestinal parasites while facilitating separation from the organism.

Moreover, it is a good fighter against ulcers. Propolis, which is also effective against gynecological problems, has an accelerating effect on the healing of lesions when applied as an ointment in genital herpes cases.

No More Bacterial Plaque Growth!

Toothpastes containing propolis extract prevent bacterial plaque growth and reduce pathogens. It heals the post-chemotherapy mouth sores and also prevents the development of candidiasis in the mouth.

If you have a cold or are trying to shorten the healing period of your upper respiratory tract infection, propolis will help you with this.

Propolis for Effective Dermatological Care

Propolis is widely used in dermatological products. It is an effective method in wound healing, enhancement of collagen synthesis and treating acne. Propolis can be applied directly to the skin, or used as an ingredient of oral care products, or used orally.

Proplis can be used in the form of drop, tablet, capsule, cream, spray, syrup and powder. However, we should never skip the most important point here, that propolis can cause serious allergic reactions in people who are allergic to bees or bee products.

We should not use propolis in pregnancy, at old age, before or right after surgical operations. Moreover, it is better not to exceed the dosage in such products.
