We use 35 percent of our energy consumption in dwellings. More than 70 percent of the energy consumed in houses is for heating and cooling purposes.
With the right thermal insulation, in both summer and winter months, it is possible to reduce the heating and cooling costs that are reflected on the invoice, and to save more energy by using thicker thermal insulation board in the sheathing application.
It is not very easy to cool our living environment when it is burning outside during summer months. Usually the environment we are in, is more difficult and costlier than cooling. This is the right solution is; sheathing.
With the correct sheathing, the right thickness, the right material and the right application, the building can be kept warm in the winter while keeping the heat outside in the summer.
Turkey is now in Second Stage in Sheathing
In our country, the benefits of sheathing is known, the number of buildings that are not sheathed is decreasing every day. As in the European countries, the second phase should now be achieved and we should talk about how to achieve the right sheathing and how to save maximum energy.
In our country, TS 825 – Limit Thickness Values of the Thermal Insulation Rules in Buildings in the current regulation of the Turkish Standards Institute are the minimum heat insulation thickness values to be applied in the relevant city.
But, this tells us that the thermal insulation under this specified thickness will not provide a significant benefit. However, in order to save more energy, it does not tell us which thickness of thermal insulation board we should use.
Because how thick heat insulation board, that much energy is saved. For this reason, consumers need to use the highest thickness thermal insulation board as much as their budgets allow, which means that they gain both for themselves and our country.
Double Thick Sheet, Two Times Energy Saving
In sheathing, the product which provides the energy saving is thermal insulation board. The thermal insulation board is located in the heart of the mantle. The thickness of the plate increases the benefit obtained from the sheathing.
While in Europe an average of 11 cm thick plate with heat insulation, unfortunately, is still thought to be sufficient for the 4-5 cm thick thermal insulation in Turkey.
However, using a thermal insulation board that is twice as thick as having a jacket increases the investment cost by only 20% while the amount of energy you save is doubled.
Approximately 20% of the bonding cost is Thermal Insulation Board, 30% is other components and 50% is application and construction site. Increasing the thickness of the Thermal Insulation Board by 2 times (100%) means increasing the cost of sheathing by only 20%, while increasing the amount of energy savings by 2 times.
The thickening of the thermal insulation board in the heart of the mantle is the most important factor affecting the energy saving.
Our Goal is to Make the Thermal Insulation Boards Double Thick
The importance of thicker sheathing for energy saving can be taught through awareness projects with the support of both the sector and the state. Austrotherm Thermal Insulation named Turkey as a country we launched a project Recovery.
With our project, we explain that there is a thermal insulation board in the heart of the mantolama and that we can increase the thickness and save more energy.
Because it means thicker thermal insulation; For the resident, less electricity and natural gas bill means less outward commitment and less energy intake for our country, and less waste for the environment, more nature friendly.
Heat Insulation, Country Gaining our first sub-project within our project, our General Manager and Director in the road, keep a pulse on Turkey’s energy saving and Turkey are traveling with motorcycles to draw attention to insulation thickness.

On the other hand, in our “AUSTROtalk” online seminar studies, we conduct different seminars on topics such as Thicker Coating, Energy Identity Certificate and Tips on Insulation.
