SASA’s Roadmap for 20 Billion Dollars of Investment Announced

The roadmap for SASA Polyester’s 20 billion dollar Adana Yumurtalık Petrochemical Facilities investment project has been revealed.

According to the statement made by SASA, the Company, which has finally completed the procurement of a significant part of the land within the framework of the Special Industrial Zone in Yumurtalık, plans to lay the groundwork for the remaining part in the beginning of the second half of this year, with the urgent expropriation decision expected in the last step.

The facility construction roadmap was also clarified in the project, in which the investment amount, which was previously decided as 11.8 billion dollars, was increased to 20 billion dollars.

According to the information given by İbrahim Erdemoğlu, Chairman of the Board of Erdemoğlu Holding, in the 1st phase between 2023 and 2026, 1 million tons of PDH and polypropylene production facility, 2 million tons of paraxylene and aromatic production facility and port construction, in the 2nd phase between 2025 and 2028, 1 million tons of PDH and polypropylene production facilities, 200 thousand tons of SAP, 100 thousand tons of 2-EH, 300 thousand tons of ACN, 1.6 million tons of PTA and 700 thousand tons of MEG production facilities and in the 3rd phase between 2027 and 2032, integration with the refinery facility with a capacity of 12 million tons will be completed, and the 2nd phase aromatic and paraxylene production facilities with a capacity of 2 million tons, MEG production with a capacity of 700 thousand tons, polyethylene with a capacity of 1 million tons and PVC production facilities with a capacity of 600 thousand tons are planned.

SASA signed a license, technical service and guarantee agreement with Honeywell UOP for the establishment of a propylene production facility with an investment amount of 1.5 billion dollars in the Yumurtalık investment area.

With the propylene production facility with an annual capacity of 1 million tons, which is expected to be completed in the first half of 2026 and whose contribution to the turnover is expected to reach 1.2 billion dollars, Turkey’s imports will also be significantly reduced.

With the production of 1 million tons of propylene, which is not produced in the textile country Turkey and imports approximately 2.5 million tons annually, 40 percent of the need will be met from national resources.
