STRAIGHT-UP PROTECTION: A SMART HAIR STRAIGHTENING SYSTEM
Hair straightening was first used to facilitate combing very curly hair. However, straight hair has become popular around the world. Chemyunion has invested in technology and innovation to offer a remarkably effective solution that reduces the undesired effects of hair straightening.

Tests
1. Confocal Raman Microscopy
The study was conducted to monitor the protective effect of Seriliss RA on albino hair fibers after straightening based on maintenance of cysteine concentrations. This amino acid plays an important role in hair structure and resistance, and it is deficiency is associated with hair weakness and breakage.
Permeation of sericin was also assessed. It is one of the proteins found in Seriliss RA whose role is to strengthen hair fibers. Hair fibers treated with Seriliss RA have cysteine levels 33% higher than fibers treated with the benchmark product.
Even after 5 straightening procedures, hair fibers treated with Seriliss RA have cystine levels 8% higher than fibers treated with the benchmark product, confirming Seriliss RA protective effect during the straightening process.
Additionally, sericin was found in hair cortex, indicating the protein present in the product can permeate fibers during straightening. The results indicate that Seriliss RA straightening treatment offers higher protection and can strengthen hair fibers.
2. Assessment of Mechanical Properties
The study comparatively assessed hair fiber resistance before and after a straightening procedure with Seriliss RA and the benchmark product. The maximum force bore by hair before rupture is directly linked with its thickness.
To assess the efficacy of Seriliss RA in protecting hair mechanical properties after straightening, the maximum tension parameter bore before rupture was taken into consideration. When compared to control, Seriliss RA increases hair fiber cross-sectional area in 11% and resulting in 14% stronger hair.
3. Straightening Effect
The study assessed the straightening effect of Seriliss RA and the benchmark product on regular curly hair based on standardized imaging analysis. RUMBA equipment was used to assess fiber orientation, as per the protocol below. RUMBA is a unique tool dedicated to the in-vivo measurement of the orientation of hair fibers.
– Wash hair with an anti-residue shampoo.
– Dry hair with a towel to remove excess moist.
– Apply the product evenly on wet hair (1.5 g of product/g of hair).
– Leave on hair for 40 minutes.
– Dry at 80% using hot air and a comb.
– Use a flat iron at 200°C, making 10 sequential moves.
– After 15 minutes, rinse hair tresses with water and apply hair conditioning.
– Dry with hot air.
– Assess the straight effect after 10 consecutive washings.

Seriliss RA outperforms the benchmark product both in terms of immediate straight effect and straight effect after consecutive washings. After straightening, hair treated with Seriliss RA is 9% straighter than hair treated with the benchmark product and 24% straighter after 10 washings.
