The Key to Having a Successful and Clear Mind in Business Life: Mindfulness

The ways to be successful in business life are being examined by many psychologists and new understandings are emerging in this regard. We all face many problems during our working time and we can stay in stressful situations.

We need to be able to protect our own psychological health as well as being successful
here. In fact, sometimes when we only focus on success, we miss how difficult the situations and intense stress can be.

At the end of this, we need to discover the points that will relieve ourselves and manage our stress. At this point, we come across “mindfulness”.

Today, many global companies have started to give their employees “mindfulness” training, which we can call conscious awareness in Turkish. So, what is mindfulness?

The “mindful” state practiced by Buddhists for centuries has become very popular today. This teaching enables people to stay in the moment with a certain perspective and attitude.

Mindfulness

Being able to stay in this moment is called being “mindful”. There are different scales of mindfulness work, that is, different trainings given. These trainings, on the other hand, consider four dimensions in general terms.

The first of these dimensions; accept. Mindfulness; It aims to accept the awareness of the moment without judgment. So no matter how disturbing things are at that moment; The moment should be welcomed and accepted.

It aims for people to accept the moment they are in without making a subjective interpretation and without developing feelings. The second dimension is observation/attention. Here, the target is how much attention a person pays to the thoughts and reactions of individuals.

The important thing here is that the individual develops attention spontaneously and without any judgment. The third dimension is concerned with how individuals describe their emotions and reactions.

This dimension can be called descriptive. Here again, the individual is expected to make a definition without developing any judgment.The fourth dimension is prudence/common sense. Here, it focuses on whether individuals act prudently before making a decision
while moving forward with awareness.

Mindfulness in Business

Being “mindful” in business life has many contributions to the performance of employees. According to the researches, without judging the situation he is in and without developing a stress against the situation; Employees who can carefully observe the situation can make more ethical decisions regarding this situation and overcome difficulties more easily.

We can summarize the good features of mindfulness as follows; more accurate and effective communication skills, making more ethical decisions, increased ability to manage stress and mood, performance increase, more creative solutions, ability to cope with difficulties more easily, resilience to stressful situations, study in a more motivated way, prolongation of the focus time, moving from automatic behavior to conscious behavior.

According to scientific researches; Positive changes were observed in cognitive, psychological and even physiological areas in individuals who practiced regularly for eight weeks.

As a result of mindfulness practices, positive changes were observed in psychological skills such as an increase in people’s general life satisfaction and perception of happiness, a decrease in negative emotions, self-confidence, and resilience in the face of negative events.
